Here are some tips that you can use to save money when buying stationery for your family this year.
Your child may have a list of things they they "need". Rather follow the stationery list that the school supplies. Buying those little extras can add a lot.
Stick to basic designs. If your child needs a pencil, then buy a standard pencil. The cost of a bright pink clutch pencil with Disney characters can be 10 times the cost of a basic pencil.
Stick to the minimum to start with. Buy what the school says is needed. Then wait for further instructions from the school when the term starts. No need to buy just-in-case items.
Shop in your house first. Send your child to search the drawers and school bags around the house. You may find that the crayons from last year are still good for another year.
Use the school stationery list, but find your own supplier. If the school urges you to buy your stationery from one supplier, then the chances are that the school is benefiting from a kick-back. Who pays for the kick back? You do. Be proactive and find out who has the best prices for what you need.
Are you preparing for your matric exams? The best preparation tool you can use is old exam papers. The DoE makes them all available (with answers!) on their website! Use the link below.
Remember that the new CAPS syllabus only came into effect in 2014. So although you can download the exam papers from older years, remember that the syllabus from those years was somewhat different. Nevertheless, they can still be a great preparation tool.
